Brangelina had their first biological child on Saturday, May 27th. The Brangelina birth took place at the Welwitschia Clinic in Walvis Bay in the African country of Namibia. Although Jolie's adopted children, four year old Maddox from Cambodia and one year old Zahara from Ethiopia have both had their surnames changed to Jolie-Pitt because of Brad's intention to co-adopt the children, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt is Brangelina's first and so far, only, biological child. The name Shiloh is a name of Hebrew origin meaning, "His gift," per thinkbabynames.com. It also associated with an 1862 Civil War battle, and a Neil Diamond song about a desperately lonely childhood. (Diamond's imaginary friend, however, spelled his name "Shilo.")
The government of Namibia has been instrumental in helping to protect the privacy of the super famous Brad and Angelina during the impending birth of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. They have refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth, if they don't have Brangelina's written permission. The Namibian government has also arrested photographers, confiscated film ringed Brad and Angelina's hotel with heavy security and even set up large green barriers on the beach to shield the Jolie-Pitt family when there.
One of the only official statements from Brangelina since the birth of their child came from publicist Cindy Guagenti; "The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given." A doctor who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to release information on Angelina or new baby Shiloh, said that "there were no complications and the mother and daughter were doing well. She is a healthy baby." Brad's brother, Doug Pitt said "It's an exciting time for Brad and Angie, and we are really happy for them and the kids."
